This beautifully carved 18th century teak painted door has been salvaged from an old building in Gujarat. The carved design replicates the design of ancient stepwells found throughout northern India.
Under the many layers of old paint, you can see some original vermillion paint coming through. This patchwork of colours and textures gives you a real sense of age.
These doors would have originally been used as the front door of a merchant's home. They are saved from buildings in India which have fallen into a state of disrepair and are no longer in a repairable state.
